Michael Jackson - Interviews With Martin Bashir

Written By Albert Park on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 | 11:57 PM

About Martin Bashir

Martin Bashir (born 19 January 1963) is a British journalist, currently with NBC News as a contributor for its Dateline program, and an afternoon anchor for MSNBC, hosting Martin Bashir.[1] He was previously an anchor for ABC's Nightline and is known for his interviews with Diana, Princess of Wales and controversy surrounding his interview and conflicting statements in his reports on singer Michael Jackson.

The Martin Bashir Interviews

In 2003, Bashir conducted a series of interviews with pop singer Michael Jackson, as part of a documentary for ITV, which Uri Geller had fixed up as a friend of Michael. Following the broadcast, which was viewed by 14 million in the UK and 38 million in the US, several media personalities[who?] accused Bashir of yellow journalism, claiming that he deliberately doctored the recordings in order to paint Jackson in an unflattering light, as well as emphasizing the allegations of child molestation made against Jackson. In an interview with Louis Theroux, Geller said that he felt betrayed by Bashir, and claimed that the ITV documentary had ruined Geller's own relationship with Michael. The New York Times called Bashir's journalism style "callous self-interest masked as sympathy."

In response, Jackson and his personal cameraman released a rebuttal interview, which showed Bashir complimenting Jackson for the "spiritual" quality of the Neverland Ranch. Bashir also described Jackson as a wonderful father and said that Jackson's relationship with his children "almost makes me weep".

Dieter Wiesner, the pop star's manager from 1996 to 2003, said of Bashir's documentary:
"It broke him. It killed him. He took a long time to die, but it started that night. Previously the drugs were a crutch, but after that they became a necessity."

Bashir later said of Jackson during ABC's coverage of his death,
"When I made the documentary, there was a small part that contained a controversy concerning his relationship with young people. But the truth is that he was never convicted of any crime, and I never saw any wrongdoing myself."

BAD TOUR

Bad was the debut concert tour by American recording artist Michael Jackson, launched in support of his seventh studio album of the same name (1987).

Sponsored by Pepsi and spanning 16 months, the tour included 123 concerts to 4.4 million fans across 15 countries. The tour grossed $125 million ($247 million in 2012 currency), adding four new entries in the Guinness World Records for the largest grossing tour in history, the tour with the largest attended audience, the most successful concert series and the most sold out shows at Wembley Stadium.

In April 1989, the tour was nominated for "Tour of the Year 1988" at the inaugural International Rock Awards. A live album and DVD of the July 16, 1988 concert in London was released along with the special edition reissue of the Bad album titled Bad 25 on September 18, 2012.

On June 29, 1987, Jackson's manager Frank DiLeo announced the singer's plan to embark on his first solo world concert tour. Sponsored by Pepsi, the tour began in Japan, marking Jackson's first performances in the country since 1973 as part of The Jackson 5.

The first nine scheduled concerts that began on September 12 sold out within hours, and five more were added due to high demand. Over 600 journalists, cameramen and fans waited for Jackson's arrival to the country at Tokyo's Narita International Airport. His pet chimpanzee Bubbles, who took a separate flight, was greeted by more than 300 people. A chartered jumbo jet was used to carry 22 truckloads of equipment, along with Jackson's entourage of 132 for the tour. The stage set used 700 lights, 100 speakers, 40 lasers, three mirrors and two 24-by-18 foot screens. Performers wore 70 costumes, four of which were attached with fiber optic lights.

While in Tokyo, Australian pop music critic Molly Meldrum conducted an exclusive interview Jackson and DiLeo that was featured on 60 Minutes in the United States. On September 18, Jackson was handed the Key to the City by Yasushi Oshima, the mayor of Osaka. He was accompanied by Bubbles, who was the first animal allowed inside the city's town hall. Jackson dedicated his Japanese concerts to Yoshioka Hagiwara, a five-year-old boy who was kidnapped and murdered, and gave £12,000 to the parents of Hagiwara. Attendance figures for the first 14 dates in Japan totalled a record-breaking 450,000. Crowds of 200,000 were what past performers could manage to draw for a single tour. Nippon Television was a co-sponsor with Pepsi for the Japanese dates.

Album concert tour of Japan, on September 14, 1987 in Yokahama Japan. Essentially a greatest hits performance by one of Pop music's most important artists. A truly vital part of THE KING OF POP'S. Recorded legacy!

Michael Jackson - Behind The Mask

Written By Albert Park on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 | 5:00 PM

All along I had to talk about it
But like a two-edged sword
it cuts you and it stabs me
All along I knew you were a phony girl
You sit behind the mask
and you control your world
You sit around and I watch your face
I try to find the truth
But that's your hiding place
You say you love me but it's hard to see
Cos when he's in your arms
You're throwing rocks at me

Who do you love?
Is it me?
With you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya
If you can't answer
You know me

(There is nothing in your eyes)
There is nothing in your eyes
(But that's the way you cry)
But that's the way you cry girl (Cry girl)
(All is grand, all is bright)
All is grand, all is bright
(You're just studying my mind)

I Walk around i'm suffering in my doom
When I come to you
Your sitting in your room
You sit around in the strangest place
So take off the mask, so I can see your face

Who do you love?
Is it me?
With You?
I don't know
Who do you love, babe?
I don't want ya
If you can't answer
I know you

(Heaven must be wary)
Heaven must be wary
(Your smile is scary)
You got me scared, girl
(Insincere, empty tears)
Every Year, yours are good
(Where's your soul? Where'd it go?)
You got me scared, girl

(Heaven must be wary)
Heaven must be wary
(Your smile is scary)
You know where you've been
(Insincere, empty tears)
Every year, na na na
(Where's your soul? Where did it go?)

I Walk around i'm suffering in my doom
And when I come to you
Your sitting in your room
You sit around in the strangest place
So take off the mask
So I can see your face

Who do you love?
Is it me?
With you?
I dont know
Who do you love, babe?
I don't want ya
If you can't answer
I know you

Who do you love?
Is it me?
With you?
I don't know
Who do you love?
I don't want ya
If you can't answer
I don't know
I don't wanna talk about it (let's talk about it)
I don't wanna talk about it (let's talk about it)
I don't wanna talk about it (let's talk about it)

Michael Jackson - (I Can't Make It) Another Day

My life has taken me beyond the planets and the stars
And you're the only one that could take me this far
I'll be forever searching for your love

I walked away but I was wrong (I can't make it another day)
You're the one that makes me strong (I can't fake it another day)
You're the fire that keeps me warm (I can't make it another day)
How will I get through this storm? (I can't make another day without your love)

At night pray before I sleep in hope of finding you
I've opened up my heart, I want you to come through
I close my eyes, I'm searching for your love

[x2]
I walked away but I was wrong (I can't make it another day)
You're the one that makes me strong (I can't fake it another day)
You're the fire that keeps me warm (I can't make it another day)
How will I get through this storm? (I can't make another day without your love)
